Most popular doesn't necessarily mean best. George Bush won the popular vote when he ran for re-election for example.

I'm the quintisential PC gamer especially when it comes to FPS'ers and I've always disliked CS. Its just too boiled down of a shooter with no depth to keep you coming back. I like me a thinking man's shooter. These are all the same reasons I've never been a fan of Halo btw.

I was addicted to Counter Strike on X-box for a while so I can explain some of its merits...It's meant to be boiled down and its meant to let the faster and more accurate person win consistently. Grenades helped keep things balanced and stopped people from camping in obvious spots. Smoke grenades allowed closer range weapons to compete with snipers on big maps. I don't think that it's the best, or even close, but it was ahead of its time as far as balance goes.

Well let the Master weigh in on this. The halo's 1,2,3,and forever will always be the best fps out at the time they are/were popular. Why> Because they are developed to be the gold standard of competitive gaming. The fluidity in the movement and the weapons are designed to deliver the most fair/competitive gaming experience. Halo separates good console fps'ers from bad ones.. What it comes down to is, if you are good you like halo.. If you are bad.. You dont really like it. Ready for the flaming!

Im sorry but Halo 1 is not the competitive for some people because it is a one weapon game it's as simple as that, which boils down to there not being alot of strategy involved.

alls I got to say in my oppinion It comes out to this equasion CoD > any other fps. I just really think Call is one of the most tactical systems of fps franchises and the graphics and getting better and improving with each release. however I do have to give honorable mention to borderlands even though its kida like a Fp-RPG.
