http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/sf/81I think this article shows it all behind the whole net decking thing at Al's and how the community has changed in the last few years there dispite on how it bashes blue and calls it non casual it has a under lying theme to it: Magic is for fun. I just think some people have forgotten this and need to be reminded even though I think this wont do one inch of good to anyone.

It depends on who is playing and I don't understand what blue being bad has anything to do with someone playing Magic to be a competitive or casual gamer. I myself was a big fan of blue in the day, but let's face the facts it's garbage now, that doesn't have anything to do with me being a casual or competitive gamer.

I think netdecking only belongs at ptq's and similar events. I've always had a problem with people who insist on netdecking at local events. Mainly because I have never liked it to begin with but also because local netdeckers ruin the fun for everyone locally.

Which personally after reading that article and thinking about it for a minute or two I am going to try avoiding untill around regionals in May. I just wish some people would follow that trend but as always they wont..

I just wish some people would follow that trend but as always they wont.. Thankfully, I do not have to worry about such things any longer as I no longer really play. But, that would be an admirable move by you. The problem with local players netdecking at casual gaming events is that -regardless of how long it takes- it always results in a snowball affect of people joining the dark side simply to compete. Put simply, it sucks losing week in and week out to netdeckers and eventually people either quit or give in and begin netdecking...which in turn adds to the snowball...

Personally I do not see why anyone netdecks in the first place. Its like hey look I am really good at winning but not at the part that shows your true skill. For those that don't know it is looking at the cards and comming up with good ideas. It is like if every videogame the first thing you do is put in cheat codes. Hey winning is fun.(Not that I know because I have yet to do it.) But at least I suck with my own ideas

Did anybody really read the article? It pretty much says people are playing net decks now because blue is bad. I don't really understand how blue being bad right now has anything to do if your a competitive gamer or not?

I think what he was trying to say wasn't that the article was saying how netdecking is bad. He was saying that the same thing the writer of the article said about blue is also true about netdecking and that is that when used in casual friday night gaming it just takes away the fun. It is the same as if someone got to used loaded dice at the end of the night when we role for high low. but some people care more about their ranking then they do about enjoying the game

but some people care more about their ranking then they do about enjoying the game I think that is the least of the most of the peoples worries beside Burham. He always cares about stuff like that for the most stupidest reasons. But, that would be an admirable move by you.
Well it cant be done this week bc I didnt have time to think of ideas with school and our Marching band trip next week. This whole week has been in a really hectic and jumbled up into a big ol' mess.

Golden and I certainly see eye to eye. I played back before the internet was a factor and it was fantastic! Wish you coulda been there man! I used to goto a weekly tournament in NC that capped off at 32 players every week...did I mention that 32 different players meant 32 different decks?! It was kick ass! You can ask anyone, for years I've said how the internet ruined Magic...

I recall this wonderful scenario as well, albeit not as completely internet free, but close. The internet did ruin magic.

The internet did ruin magic.
But it also revolutionized it. I may not have been around then but I bet there had to been some positive effects the internet had on the Magic playing experience.

If by positive, you mean that it made it less creative, less skill intensive (for lack of the deck building aspect), more competitive (almost making it feel business like as opposed to it being a game), and ultimately less fun...than yes it did have a positive impact.

There is no arguing with what you said there...
